Avidemux is a great video editing program for Linux. In addition to allowing the user to make simple cuts and edits to a particular video, Avidemux can also reencode, so if you have a video file that you want to put on a portable player such as an Apple iPod or Microsoft Zune, you can do that right from within Avidemux. Using Avidemux is very simple, although a bit of knowledge about codecs, bitrate and formats will come in very handy.
Depending on what libraries you have installed on your computer, Avidemux can read and encode to a large number of formats. It can encode video using the H263 codec, MJPEG, MPEG4, VCD, DVD, SVCD, Xvid4, x264 and many more. Encoding audio can be performed using the LAME mp3 encoder, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, MP2 or AC3, as well as a couple others. Finally, Avidemux can output your finished video to a handful of formats as well, including AVI, OGM, MPEG, MPEG TS, MPEG PS and MP4.

TubeTV is a free utility for Mac users that makes it incredibly simple, for even the most novice users, to download videos from YouTube and convert them into videos ready to be watched on your Mac via QuickTime, on your iPod or iPhone, on an Apple TV, or through iTunes. Best of all, a lot of the process is completely automatic, so except for a couple settings, all the user needs to do is search, point and click. TubeTV does the rest.
How does TubeTV work? Simple. If you already have the URL of a cool YouTube video (sent to you via a friend via email, or just from a webpage link), you can enter that into the TubeTV interface, which is basically a web browser with a few extra buttons. If you don't have the URL already, the search field in the TubeTV toolbar will search YouTube for whatever you're looking for. Or, if you like, you can also set the search field to search Google, Google Video, or Dailymotion. |

When I first heard of the Sandisk Sansa TakeTV, I thought "Finally an easy to use TV to PC converter that doesn't cost much." I'm here to tell you I was wrong. Luckily I didn't buy it. After reading more about this, TakeTV seems to be just about the most pointless invention I've ever heard of. It allows you to take video files from your computer, kind of like a flash drive, and lets you plug into your TV and watch those clips on your TV. Now it's not a bad concept but seems almost pointless.
With burnable media becoming cheaper by the day, it would be cheaper to burn you video clips onto a CD or DVD. TakeTV supports MPEG-4, Divx, and a few others. The problem is that many videos available on the internet are in formats that are not supported such as WMV. And although you have the capacity to put maybe 3 Full length DVD movies onto this TakeTV, trying to hack and work through all the copy protection is not only illegal but time consuming. The Sandisk TakeTV is only available in 4GB and 8GB. If I were to own this, I would definitely want more than 8GB for $150. |

An iPod, developed by Apple, is a portable electronic device capable of playing media files. The iPod initially began as a digital audio player and a storage device for data, although newer versions have been developed to allow video files to play on them as well. The iPod can support a wide range of audio and video formats, including MP3, WAV, MPEG-4 and QuickTime video, among others.
The iPod is a portable device capable of both storing and playing large amount of material, such as videos, while taking up such little space. Because of this, many programs have been developed to allow DVDs to be converted to iPod compatible material. |

In this article I will go over step by step instructions on how to convert and MP4 to an Mmp3, as well as explain the difference between the two file types, and why this can be useful. So, before I continue to ramble on with a long introductory paragraph, let's just get to it.
The Difference Between MP4 and MP3: MP4 stands for "Mpeg-14 part 14." An MP4 as you may already know, is a file that contains both audio and video. MP3 stands for "Mpeg-1, layer 3." MP3 files only contain audio. Obviously, you would not be able to burn an MP3 to an audio CD using iTunes or Windows Media Player. Which brings to why it might be necessary for someone to convert an MP4 to an MP3. |
